Water and your health
There is growing information on chlorine and cancer. The Harvard Morris Study on chlorinated drinking water and cancer found chlorinated water to be responsible for 9% of all bladder cancers and 15% of rectal cancers in the U.S.
According to the study, this exposure to chlorinated water over a long period of time causes a 21% increase in the risk of contracting bladder cancer and a 38% increase in the risk of rectal cancer.
Robert D. Morris, who conducted the study says, “I am quite convinced, based on this study, that there is an association between cancer and chlorinated water."
The Importance Of Water Purification For Our Health
In the days of unpolluted pioneer America, pure water was everywhere. Unfortunately, it is not so to date. Today, water has become one of the most contaminated elements on the Earth. Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is water covered. Approximately ninety-eight percent of the Earth’s water is saline, coming from the seas and oceans, leaving only two percent as fresh water for drinking.
Public water systems contain chemicals, carcinogens, often Detergents, Chlorine, Fluorides, Arsenic V, Mercury, Asbestos, Lead, Toxaphene, PCB’s, Pesticides, Herbicides and in larger cities, may contain as much as 75% recycled water. This is sewage that has been reclaimed through chemical treatment methods and recycled into the human drinking water system. Seventy-five percent of the water treatment plants in the United States show serious deficiencies according to the U.S General Accounting Office, and estimates that 66% of Safe Drinking Water Act violations aren’t reported. As if that wasn’t enough. U.S. Health Officials estimate 900,000 people a year become ill from water borne disease. According to a study done by the Resources Defense Council, more than 120 million people get unsafe drinking water.
There have also been studies finding high exposure to chlorinated water responsible for doubling the risk of miscarriages in pregnancies, and colon cancer.
How do these chemicals get into the drinking water supply? Every, and all chemicals made by man can and will contaminate water supplies. Airborne pollutants from the atmosphere are rain washed into rivers, aquifers and lakes and find their way into drinking water.
Need further convincing?
St. Paul Dispatch and Pioneer Press December 1987 – “Long term drinking of chlorinated water appears to increase a persons risk of developing bladder cancer as much as 80%,” according to a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Health Freedom News January/February 1987 – “The drinking of chlorinated water has finally been officially linked to an increased incident to colon cancer. An epidemiologist at Oak Ridge Associated Universities completed a study of colon cancer victims and non-cancer patients and concluded that the drinking of chlorinated water for fifteen years or more was conducive to a high rate of colon cancer.”
To stop chlorination of drinking water would be futile. The alternative of water purification and filtering is necessary for providing all living things with pure, clean, unpolluted water essential to a healthy lifestyle of well being.
